Build-a-Bear, Mall of America: Making Our Own Adorable Plushies

Build-a-Bear is a toy store that lets kids like me experience making our own stuffed toys. We went to the Build-a-Bear store in Mall of America in Minnesota, USA and it was so much fun!

Here are the steps to making your own cute stuffed toy at Build-a-Bear.

First, you get to choose your stuffed toy. They have a lot of designs!

It took me and my brother a long time to choose the stuffed toy design we liked because there are a lot of cute ones. I noticed that the prices are also different, from USD 10 to USD 48.

I chose a rainbow teddy bear and my little brother chose Pikachu. These were part of a USD 48-for-2 promo they had when we visited.

You can add a sound to your stuffed animal if you want to or you can skip this step. They have different sound choices and you can even record your own voice. I chose a cute sound for my rainbow bear and my little brother chose Pikachu’s voice for his Pikachu.

This step adds USD 6 to USD 9 to the total cost of your stuffed toy.

You can also add a scent to your bear! I choose a cotton candy scent for my rainbow bear and my brother chose a birthday cake scent for his Pikachu.

This step adds USD 4.50 to the total cost.

Next, they gave us a heart that will be placed inside our stuffed toy. The lady who helped us recited a poem and made us promise to take care of our stuffed toy.

After that, she placed the sound chip inside the arm of our stuffed toy. She asked us to step on a part of the machine to start filling our stuffed toys. After a bit is filled, she asked us where we want to place the scent. I chose my bear’s tummy and my brother chose Pikachu’s back. She placed the scent inside the bear and we continued stuffing our toys.

After making our toys super huggable, she sewed the stuffed toys already.

We really liked this step because it feels like we really created our own unique stuffed toys.

They also have a lot of clothes and accessories that you can buy for your stuffed toy. I chose a cute shirt for my rainbow bear.

My little brother was already happy with his Pikachu so he did not add any clothes or accessories anymore.

There will also be an additional cost if you buy any clothes or accessories.

After making our stuffed toys, we went to a computer where we entered the names of our toys. They gave us a birth certificate with our stuffed toy’s names later on.

They have a photo corner in their store where we took a photo with our stuffed toys before we went to the payment counter.

The final step is paying for your new Build-a-Bear stuffed toy. After paying, they placed our toys in big paper bags for us to take home.
